Legion, ROG, Katana, Nitro or Alienware: five gaming laptops compared

Five conceptual gaming laptops under blue and orange lighting, with Sylar Knows branding.

Start with the exact configuration. These five gaming laptops span different hardware tiers, and the model name alone will not tell you which version you are buying. Your shortlist should follow your games, screen preferences and complete purchase cost.

The five configurations

These are specific units from independent 2025 reviews, rather than every version sold under each name.

Alienware 16 AuroraCore 7 240H / RTX 50601600p IPS, 120Hz

What the game tests tell you

In separate Tom’s Hardware tests at 1080p, the Legion scored 163fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Highest settings; the Strix G16 managed 151fps. In Far Cry 6 on Ultra, the Strix recorded 143fps against the Legion’s 117fps.

Those results do not establish a universal winner. Drivers, patches and power modes were not fully matched across reviews. Disputed Cyberpunk figures are excluded, and 1080p results should not be treated as predictions for higher-resolution screens.

Check the complete price

The checked Alienware Core 7 240H/RTX 5060 configuration, with 32GB RAM, 1TB storage and Windows 11 Home, lists at $2,099.99 in the US and £2,267.45 in the UK. US tax and charger inclusion remain unconfirmed; the UK price includes VAT but excludes a charger. Both pages advertise free delivery and show a purchasing technical issue. Stock and fulfilment are unconfirmed.

These are listing observations, not guaranteed checkout totals. Complete current US/UK quotes were not established for all five laptops. Compare tax, delivery, charger, Windows and the exact product code before paying.

Which should you shortlist?

Screen and graphics priorities: consider the reviewed Legion’s OLED/RTX 5080 combination if the premium fits your budget. The Strix is another candidate for gaming alongside CPU-heavy work.

Mixed use away from a socket: the reviewed Acer lasted over 10 hours 17 minutes in a browsing, video and OpenGL battery test at 150 nits. That is not gaming endurance.

Considering MSI or Alienware? Check the actual GPU and package first. A Katana RTX 5050 review cannot predict an RTX 5070 variant’s performance.

Get an itemised US or UK quote for your preferred configuration before choosing. If your current laptop handles your games satisfactorily, keeping it is a valid option.
